Prudential CEO to Meet With Biggest U.K. Shareholders Next Week

By Gavin Finch Bloomberg March 07, 2010, 1:21 PM EST

March 6 (Bloomberg) -- Prudential Plc’s Chief Executive Officer Tidjane Thiam will meet the company’s 30-biggest U.K. shareholders to discuss the purchase of American International Group Inc.’s Asian insurance unit.

Thiam’s meeting with investors next week is part of a planned series of consultations worldwide, Prudential spokesman Edward Brewster said. Thiam is seeking to reassure stockholders over the cost and extent of Prudential’s $35.5 billion bid for the AIA Group Ltd.

Thiam announced the agreement, the biggest ever acquisition by an insurer, on March 1 as Prudential swung to a full-year profit. It will fund the purchase through a $20 billion rights offer scheduled to begin in May and a $5 billion bond sale. The firm will also pay AIG $10.5 billion in new Prudential shares and other securities.
